    Departure – Tearful Goodbyes

    The Elephant Ignite Expedition departed on 9th August from Sun Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom. Friends, family and press waved the crew off as they headed on their epic journey.

    Departure Escort – Harley Davidson Ladies

    The ladies where escorted on by another all female group… the Harley Davidson ladies!!! They led the cavalcade on route north and parted ways with the team in Ballito.

    Departure – Avis 4×4 Safari

    The Elephant Ignite Expedition has generously supported by Avis 4×4 Safari Rentals. These epic safari vehicles will be our mode of travel and “home” for the next 100 days. Thank you Martin Steer!!!

    Thula Thula Private Game Reserve

    The expedition’s first stop was the Thula Thula Private Game Reserve where the team met with Francoise Malby Anthony, the wife of late Lawrence Anthony author of the book “The Elephant Whisperer”

    KZN Travel and Tourism Show

    We participated in a fundraising and awareness campaign with a small stand at the show, encouraging visitors to pin R 20 pledges on our giant elephant. “Give an elephant to save the elephant”

    Indaba 2016 @ ICC Durban

    The Elephant Ignite Team and sponsored vehicles were on display at Durban’s #Indaba2016 – partnered with Avis Safari Rentals. The team spread the word and created valuable awareness for the Elephant Ignite Expedition, connected with heads of tourism boards of all the countries along the route, met conservationists, fellow intrepid explorers and like-minded individuals – a wonderful opportunity and a great success!

    1st Press Conference @ Sibaya

    The Elephant Ignite Expedition Press Conference and Official Media Launch, hosted at Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Complex in KZN. The media were introduced not only to the overall concept of the expedition: the goals and the objectives, but also the all-female expedition team and the Avis 4×4 Safari vehicles that will take Elephant Ignite across 10 counties across Africa.

    Fundraiser @ Makaranga Garden Lodge

    The first official Elephant Ignite Expedition Fundraiser held at Makaranga Garden Lodge and Spa. An evening of good food and wine, courtesy of Diemersfontien, a fantastic talk by guest speaker David Bozas, music by David Starke and an exciting fundraising auction. With all the expedition team members funding their own travels, all funds raised go directly to our beneficiaries.

    1st Avis 4×4 Training @ Shongweni

    10 000 kms and 10 countries in Avis Safari Rental sponsored vehicles means the all-female expedition team needs to be prepared to take on the open road. A weekend of training at Killarney in Shongweni, Durban, put the team’s skills to the test – with rocky, muddy, sandy and sometimes treacherous terrain to negotiate.
